The DQA team has the ability to undertake diverse structural and earthquake engineering tasks. The DQA has the capability to design reinforced concrete (RC) and steel structures, RC and prestressed concrete long and short span bridges, planner and space steel trusses of any size and shape. The earth protection system (EPS) in the form of sheet piles etc., for deep excavation is also designed at DQA. The modeling, analysis and design of the structural systems are carried following the national and international accepted standards and guidelines, as adopted by most of the public departments in Pakistan. The following are considered in general: • American Concrete Institute (ACI-318-19): for the design and SMRF detailing of structural members (beams, columns, slab and footings) • Uniform Building Code 1997 (UBC-97): for calculation of base shear force and equivalent lateral load analysis of frame structure for calculation of members shear and moment demands. • Building Code of Pakistan – Seismic Provision 2007 (BCP-2007): for structural analysis and earthquake-resistant design of structure in accordance with the site-specific seismic hazard (seismic zones, site soil).
